You were there again last night...

I touched your shoulders, took a breath and inspired you...

only then to wake up to another sun in a different world.

Yet again, there you were in another dream.

Fall...I only wish the wind wasn't so cold this year.

This time you whispered in my ear and inspired me,

My garden grows over your grave...

I wonder if you noticed.

I feel the power of those who walked before

The rage of injustice, the stifled cry of a people fractured

You were my best friend

The designated driver

My guardian for the night, you said

Dedicated to keeping me straight

There were 20 of us at ‘the Pie’

We all danced, tossed back drinks

Back then tequila was my drink

We were having one hell of a birthday party

The DJ played “Legs” by ZZ Top

Put me on a stool in the middle of the dance floor

He wore a wig, had a mic and lip synced his hea...

She stands before him

Beautiful in soul

Offering only herself

No wealth, no land

Nothing but the promise

Of fidelity, of love

She awaits his answer

Eyes downcast, trembling
