Five Seasons of Change

Miracles may not happen every day

Yet their flourish abundantly clear

From the darkest recesses morning’s light

And the whisper of wind’s reminder

A budding romance of spring’s abiding

Young warbler’s song in spirited chiding

Infancy weathers a growing season

Where darkness yields a sun-furrowed brow

Inquisitive as a youthful learning

Through seeds of burgeon and timely passage

Were Peace More Than A Dream

Early bright sifting through broken clouds as

Daylight’s promise was slow in keeping

Lazy o’er mountain’s ridge promontory

Mottled in pine stands sparse, imposing

Lake water’s pebble of morning shimmer

Serenity’s stepping stones, sallow bring

Locked Away For Safe Keeping

First light, brilliant texture on darkened walls

Adorned with artifact vestige of days

Turned over and over so long ago

In the presence of distant memory

As sleep would defiantly summon dreams

Locked away in perpetua lkeeping

Images stilled lo the timepiece ticking

As moments would pass, hours forsaken

Possessions would seem a treasured keepsake

As time and loved ones lost, recollections

Of their eyes, their voice, their ...

Inconveivable Notions; The Power Of One

I stand, lost to a distant consideration, a subjugate in surrender to a higher being. These stands of massive protrusion divided by a chasm as great as the parting of the seas transform a thousand miles into a hardscape of logarithmic proportion. There is silence, absolute save the slight inference of a catatonic breeze reaching an extremity beyond h...

Through Your Eyes; A Valentine

Posted by Don MacIver on February 18, 2010 at 1:59 AM Comments comments (4)

I want to apologize for the lateness of the posting of this Valentine's Day piece. I wrote this for my wife Andrea who is currently fighting ovarian cancer and is scheduled for surgery next week. Despite how miserable she feels right now she maintains that familiar smile and carries all the love in her heart that many search a lifetime to find.

I wanted this to be meaningful to all who share the love of poetry and prose while seeing something of the deeply seeded, and at the...

Requiem For The Masses

Footsteps fall injurious tender

On a path traversed too many times

Tread markings deep and grindingly so

As to hint of a journey wanton

Beads of reincarnate sweat linger

Testament to the toil asunder

Our lives cast in shadows dispersing

As spores to a resilient wind

Cancerous lesions lay souls to sleep

On a bed of cinder smouldering

Tarsands spew ruins in aftermath

Of warring nations' insatiable

Thirst of a w...

Our lives a web of transparencies

Openworks of configurations

Flesh blanketing a skeletal frame

Beyond cells of propagated limbs

Extended courtesies, obliging

Kindly words of forgiveness spoken

The wounds of life's bitter offerings

Fester without bandage nor dressings

Eyes castigate in hasteful judgement

Lo reasonable considerations

Would now behest our swift attention

Save unintentional consequence

May substance flow in ...

What I Can't Be Anymore

The onset of dementia is a critical progression of cognitive challenges that are frustrating and debilitating. Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease has been prevalent in my family. Perhaps our genetic makeup is such that we are sharing a systemic and ravaging illness that will eventually take each one of us (our family) beyond a point of reckoning, beyond sensible awareness, beyond the capability to understand what it is that is tearing us down.

Here, I write this piece in the ...

Innocent; In Prayer

Long do I stand in unclothed modesty

A mirrored examination lacking

Culpable witness to an unknown crime

Saved harmless of intention, guilt or sin

I speak without malice, forgivingly

My words spake with innocence, honesty

Observe of my face absent cosmetics

Mine eyes, heart and soul lacking deception

Fragile Existence

Posted by Don MacIver on June 6, 2009 at 4:04 PM Comments comments (4)

I would preface this piece with the reflection that although the world and all that lives upon it is enduring our existence is highly frangible, wrought with threatening occurence that places us in a precarious position, exposed to distress and eventual failure should we not recognize the things which may one day render the globe a lifeless entity.

Towers of igneous touch upon sky

Extrusions of might pierce cloud canopy

Victor to eons of weathered st...
