Puzzle Pieces..

Nothing seems right.

There's no one thing to put a finger to,

that can be pointed at.. and one can say

"This.. this is the problem.  I can fix this."

The colors and hues are all muted,

and the food tastes just a little bland.

The smiles and the rare laugh are forced,

as I scratch through every day.

There's a piece to my puzzle that's missing,

or maybe three or ...

Einstein said..

The stillness of the evening air surprises me.

It should be rushing by, screaming in my ears like a banshee,

shouldn't it?

The very ground beneath our feet is spinning like a top,

over a thousand miles per hour.

This ball of dirt and water and stone, so primal and firm,

that we live upon streaks through the empty void around the sun,

sixty-seven thousand miles per hour.

Our solar system rushes through space, hurled about...

I Hope

It seems as though there are

a thousand paths ahead of me.

Each one more brambled

and treacherous than the one

that came before it.

My skin is bleeding, raw,

and exposing things I'd rather keep hidden,

for your sake, as well as mine.

Each drop of crimson that hits the forest floor

takes a little more of me away.

The earth is thirsty here.

I can't find my way through this tangle...

Ask Me Why

You ask me why

I never talk

about myself.

My troubles and my worries,

kept inside, to seeth and gnaw.

The dull ache a familiar one

to me.  A cold comfort.

Set In Stone (Shadow Wolfe/KalRyan Collab

Medea  walked into the supermarket with a list in her hand and a purse on her arm. Everyone stared at her as she did though. The Midwest of the USA was not used to seeing people come in, in a burqa or burka. Used to curious gazes, she merely went out her business. She picked up small items here and there and put them into a cart, quickly moving to the checkout and into the parking lot. She loaded the items into her car and then decided on a walk. She was used to the...

Opening The Box (Shadow Wolf/KalRyan collab

Dora was sitting at the diner waiting for her friend Erin.  He was the kind of guy a girl could depend on, but.. she wasn’t trying to date him right now. Dora sipped her coffee and waited so she might finally get some breakfast. The cinnamon rolls smelled good, maybe he’d split one with her. She brushed back her long black hair behind a pale ear and looked around with dark green eyes that seemed to have middle eastern gold spun inside of them. Her manicu...

Episode 3

It figured that it would be overcast the day I was supposed to show up at Miss Diamante's house.  Clouds had scuttled in to town last night and then hunkered down like squatters around a barrel fire, intending to stay.  But at least it helped kill the sweltering heat.  I hadn't had much call to get up to the fancy neighborhoods this lady stayed in.  Most of my work was out in the streets, amongst the forgotten human re...

Episode 2

I had been right about this case from the start.  There was something smelly about it.  And after three long days of running down leads, I knew which direction it was coming from now.  I'd had to twist a few arms to find out what I needed to know, but they sang like canaries once it was all done.  The low-lifes of the city had no loyalty to anyone.  Carrot or the stick would usually make them flip.  I preferred th...

Mystery

What is the mystery

          of eternity

that it can be locked

in a few months of knowing

a weekend of bliss

an hour of longing

a minute of waiting

a second of absence

a split second of need?

How can time stretch

        ...

Episode 1

It started like it always did.  With a body.  The day she walked in to my office was sticky and hot, like the inside of a proofing oven that had been left on too long with the bread in it.  The smells that had wafted in through the open window reminded me of the last corpse I'd been called in to look over, three days floating in the open river, bloated and rotting.  Just like the entire da...
